Empire is an American musical drama television series. Although filmed in Chicago, the show is set in New York and centers on a fictional hip hop music and entertainment company, Empire Entertainment, and the drama among the members of the founders’ family as they fight for control of the company.
Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) is a former drug dealer-turned-hip hop mogul and CEO of Empire Entertainment whose life begins to cave in around him after his past sins come back to haunt him following an apparent diagnosis of ALS and his murder of a close associate. Looking to groom one of his three sons – Empire CFO Andre (Trai Byers), R&B singer-songwriter Jamal (Jussie Smollett), and rapper Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) – to take over the family business, Lucious pits them against each other.[6] Empire also stars Taraji P. Henson as Lucious’ ex-wife Cookie Lyon, who is released from prison after serving a 17-year sentence, and also pulls for control of both the company and her sons
